Hamas, Hezbollah, Tamil Tigers and Tigray

Pure coincidence but in the space of maybe twenty tweets in my timeline today there are two tweets that have a 1980s-90s feel to them, one tied to Hamas today.

First was the Tamil Tigers (1970s to 2009).  There were a ferocious terrorist/independence group in Sri Lanka who committed innumerable terrorist attacks on the Sinhalese majority and fought the Sri Lankan army to a standstill.  After a number of years, the Sri Lankan military relaxed all the rules of war and finally defeated the Tamil Tigers in savage fighting condemned by many nations around the world.  But it did bring peace and a cessation of terrorist attacks.
For those wanting to insist that there is an alternative to Israel completely defeating Hamas (and Hezbollah, Panda_Prime is offering the Sri Lankan example of a nation which defeated a terrorist separatist group in brutal war and who achieved peace through that defeat of the enemy.  An idea (Tiger Tamil victory in a separate Tamil state on the island of Ceylon) can be completely defeated in this example.

Also, just a little later, I see an update on the Tigray, Ethiopia.  From the mid-1970s onwards Tigray various fought a civil war amongst Tigrayan groups as well as secessionist wars against Ethiopia,
Hamas, Hezbollah, Tigray, Tamil Tigers - it was to be hoped that we were slowly putting it all behind us rather than resurrecting some of what had been settled.
