I was looking to a verify a quote accorded to Babrius. Couldn't find much and what I did find was from Portugal. Finally realized this was likely Babrius the Roman (writing in Greek), one of the first to record what would be come Aesop's Fables. Very little is known of him and what is known is largely speculative.
I couldn't find the quote I was searching for but I did find this insight, quoted in "Otávio Rocha, one hundred years of colonial life" by Floriano Molon p. 434.
The degree of civilization of a people is always proportional to the quality and quantity of the wines they consume.
The sort of philosophical assertion which can only be resolved over a fine meal with good wine.
