In the past month I have seen four accounts by academics/specialists who have gone out of their way to post that people are asking them to stop posting political commentary and stick with their main content which was whatever their specialty was.
I follow two international relations accounts which became especially pertinent after Russia's February invasion of Ukraine. For perhaps six months they have been very useful sources of technical information about what was happening in the war. Then, in the past couple or three months, they have reduced their focus on Ukraine, begun reverting to their original international relations focus.
That's disappointing but understandable. What is not, especially given that they are British, is their increasing habit from about three months ago, is posting Trump Derangement Syndrome content. Also some general snarkiness about any party that is distinctly conservative. I sort of understand the latter, resorting to the academic leftist trope.
But Trump? Why is he at all relevant to anything in their field or to Ukraine? It is pure TDS and is degrading or their brand. Especially given that they often get fundamental things wrong about him. Posting petty, ill-informed, derogatory snark is their entire right but ultimately reduces their readership and influence. Why would they choose to do that.
The other observation is that somehow or for some reason I am being exposed to more and a wider range of accounts that I seem to have been in the past. And some are well worth following. Maybe a chance thing but interesting none-the-less.
