If one ever needed a reminder of the importance of the freedom of speech, there is this thought from Joseph Stalin,

Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas?

Kind of sheds a different light on speech codes at universities, first amendment zones, and the general desire of the politically correct to squash speech deemed objectionable.
