I stop the data in 2001 because that's when the SIC data ends. If I merge the SIC and NAICS data (and average them for the years of overlap, 1990-2001), here's what the chart looks like. Total manufacturing employment is now 3.2 million pic.twitter.com/MfNog0FGdG
