R&D investment magnitudes

This is interesting across at least a couple of facets.  Of course there is West versus China comparisons.  Then there is IT/SW versus hard product companies (Pharma and Automotive).  Then there are the present and unpresent.  Where is SpaceX?  They are driving some astonishing outcomes which I would have thought to reflect underlying investments in R&D.  SpaceX is a private company so perhaps that is another facet, R&D between Public listed and Private companies.

And of course the major missing piece is Government R&D versus Corporate.  Perhaps also NGO as well (to capture universities.)
