I have learned at least three principles

From Amiable autocrat: a biography of Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes by Eleanor M. Tilton.  Published in 1947.  Page 100.

After a few months' exposure to Louis [Dr. Pierre Charles Alexandre Louis in Paris], Holmes reported the core of his teaching:

I have learned at least three principles since I have been in Paris; not to take authority when I can have facts; not to guess when I can know; not to think a man must take physick because he is sick.

Imagine.  He had to go all the way to Paris to learn that.  The whole nation learned the same thing staying here with Fauci.
