Well, a few months ago we had Dr. Fauci declaring that all his actions were based on science (which we now know for certain they were not) and that any attack, any criticism of him was an attack on Science. He was, of course, roundly mocked but still. That is a lot of self-regard to believe that a criticism of his bad public health policy was a criticism of science. Indeed, the Science was its own criticism of those bad policies but that was not what was being acknowledged at the time.
And now they want an amnesty.
The second line of evidence for this parasitic mind worm in Washington, D.C. was on NPR today. They were announcing a speech tonight by President Biden in which he will purportedly declare, in roundabout fashion that a vote against Democrats is a vote against Democracy. That anyone in disagreement with Democrats policies, no matter how objectively bad those policies might be, must be a violent fascist.
Just as with Fauci, it is patent nonsense. Voting against rulers and voting for their opponents is the very evidence of a healthy democracy. Trying to demonize political opponents is the antithesis.
So what is it in the Washington water which is causing otherwise smart people to abstract and project in such a way that anyone who has a different opinion must be against the Science and against Democracy, no matter how absurd that argument might be.
Maybe it is social bubbles or perhaps insider social contagion, but I am going with some insidious variant of a mind worm.
