Watched Battle for Sevastopol last night. A Russian movie celebrating the life of Lyudmila Pavlichenko. A university student at the outbreak of World War II, she joined the Soviet Army as a sniper and amassed 309 confirmed kills, the highest for a female sniper.
The movie notes that after severe wounds in 1942, she was sent on a Soviet goodwill mission to the US, Canada and Britain. In the US, she meets Woody Guthrie who composes a song for her.
