This bronze head of emperor Augustus was torn from a statue in the #Roman province of Egypt by Kushite soldiers. It was buried as a trophy under the front steps of a temple at Meroe, Sudan, trodden on daily in disrespect. An ironic twist of fate which preserved it @britishmuseum pic.twitter.com/0YjfttFFdk
