The mystery of the mind of modern media

Fascinating. I encounter many opinions or analyses with which I disagree, many circumstances of which I disapprove, and realities which I do not like. There plenty of questions where I do not understand what is going on but do understand why I don't understand.

This one is rare. A journalist for a former mainstream media magazine, Newsweek, claims he has not heard of any of the dozens of statues toppled or destroyed in the past couple of weeks. I can understand that he might not have liked Trump's speech. I cannot understand how, as a mainstream media journalist, he is unaware of one of the main stories over the past month.

Is this simply lying propaganda? Seems too naive to be possible.

Did he really not notice? Short of a prolonged hospital emergency related to a coma, also seems impossible.

I have no robust explanation for this inexplicable statement.

The closest I can come is desperate avoidance of acknowledging Trump's foresight. Back in 2016 or 2017, Trump observed that mobs unseating statues was a slippery slope. One day it might seem legitimate to topple a Forrester statue, but the next you'll be seeing Lincoln and Washington coming down. Trump was widely mocked in the press for such an alarmist and absurd position.

And here in 2020 as the mob topples statues of Columbus and Washington and abolitionists, progressives, it is clear that Trump was right all along. And the mainstream media is coughing and averting its eyes and not mentioning the forecast as they see their favored mobs doing the yeoman's work of advancing the revolution.

So perhaps Abramson is merely denying the videoed reality of toppled Washington statues and municipalities bowing to the mob and removing Lincoln in order to not engage with the argument that Trump was right and Abramson wrong. Perhaps, but it seems almost as unlikely as the other explanations.
