Passing under a yoke

In 321 BC a Samnite army successfully trapped a large Roman force at the Caudine Forks. The Romans surrendered before a javelin was thrown, but the Samnites then forced them to pass under a yoke – a humiliating symbol of subjugation. The Romans did not forget. pic.twitter.com/kMBBtFEDaA
