When you think about any particular movement and ask what is its false promise and what is the fear it is mongering, it usually is reasonably self-evident.
Occupy Wall Street - Promise: Get rid of capitalism and life improves. Fear tactic: Oppression by financial interests.Anthropogenic Global Warming - Promise: Sacrifice today will lead to a better tomorrow. Fear tactic: Inaction leads to global destruction.Black Lives Matter/Critical Race Theory - Promise: Non-blacks can redeem themselves through expatiation. Fear tactic: Guilt for historical events.Socialism/Communism - Promise: Peter will pay Paul for existing. Fear tactic: Inaction will lead to oppression and destruction.Income inequality - Promise: Everyone's income can be equalized without harming productivity. Fear tactic: Moral fear of being unfair.DEI - Promise: Peter will pay Paul for existing. Fear tactic: Inaction will lead to oppression and destruction.ESG - Promise: Sacrifice today will lead to a better tomorrow. Fear tactic: Inaction leads to global destruction.
Covid-19 Vaccines - Promise: Take the vaccine and you will suffer no harm and cause no harm. Fear: If you do not take the vaccine you will cause others to die and die yourself.
Social Justice - Promise: Peter will pay Paul for existing. Fear tactic: Inaction will lead to oppression and destruction.
The other shared characteristics are totalitarian coercion coercion, insistence on a scientific consensus that does not exist, and an absence of shared, transparent evidence. If the issue were clear and obvious and beneficial, there would be majority consent (consensus is usually an impossible bar to achieve.)
Advocacy groups always claim that they want a dialogue and want to bring attention to an issue. If that were all that was involved, it would be straight forward as most the promises are false and most of the fear is manufactured.
Their biggest enemy is consent of the governed paired with free speech and transparency.
