I clicked through expecting plenty of partisanship and found that; but I also found plenty of data as well. I rage against the evil of the critical theory postmodernist left and their insistence on dealing with people as groups rather than as individuals. Their desire to shoe horn people into predetermined templates of wants, needs and aspirations. Their rejection of individualism, freedom and choice.
Mote-and-bailey style, there are nuggets of valid insight within critical theory and postmodernism but those nuggets are then used to justify far-reaching repression and stripping of human rights.
But every system is threatened by its own inconsistencies. Postmodernist critical theory is a thin cover justifying naked power grabs by authoritarians. However, among their many and monstrous inherent contradictions is a snake in the grass which is biting hard. Intersectionality.
It was early championed by black feminists. Their basic point is that they had an intersection of identities. They were feminists with an agenda and they were blacks with a different agenda and that those two agendas needed to be reconciled.
Intersectionality is the first step back from the totalitarian precipice. If you first acknowledge two identities, then you have paved the way for three identities (race, gender, orientation), and then four (race, gender, orientation, religion). That's about as far as they have gotten so far but age, income, familial status, occupation, culture, etc. might not be too far behind. Given enough time, they might evolve back to the right side of history and acknowledge, with Walt Whitman that every person is unique and shout:
I am large, I contain multitudes.Once you are back to the realization that everyone is unique, it becomes easier to then acknowledge the old Age of Enlightenment genius. We need to focus on rule-of-law, equality before the law, god-given human rights, freedom, consent of the governed, checks-and-balances, due process, etc.
But the fog of power-hunger and avarice is thick and it will be a long road before they shed their racism, bigotry, and hatred.
As the tweets in Montalbano's article indicate. Far left Democrats are berating white women for voting their interests rather than according to the dictates of postmodernist critical race theory. Those women have dared to be individuals and the postmodernist left is assailing them in racial and misogynistic terms. If this is not prejudicial bigotry, then what is?
