From "Now, just three weeks after its announcement, the Disinformation Governance Board is being 'paused, according to multiple employees at DHS..." by Ann Althouse. The Washington Post is reporting that the Biden Administration is having second thoughts about their totalitarian Disinformation Governance Board. They stood up the new Board to address their perceived crisis of disinformation. "Disinformation" being what other people would call alternate opinions and interpretations.
In Congressional testimony, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security was not able to advance evidence for the purported crisis, had to reveal that they considered no other candidate than the proposed loopy Nina Jankowicz, and had to confess that they were unaware of her rich history of loony videos and track record of supporting false claims.
A Disinformation Governance Board ought to strike concern into the heart of anyone with even a vestigial awareness of the First Amendment. Especially when it seems that one of Jankowicz's proposals seemed to be that the DGB ought to work with tech companies to enable the DGB to edit social media conversations in order to add commentary or context. Big Brother vibes everywhere on this monstrosity of an idea.
Althouse is mocking the Washington Post's reporting. They want to defend the Biden administration but they can't defend the Board or the nominated head of the Board so they make it about "right-wing attacks" on the board. What nonsense.
I love how she finishes the post.
Maybe this is the moment when the rise of censorship began to slow and our nation began to heal!
