It makes a mockery of diversity and openness

From Homogeneous: The Political Affiliations of Elite Liberal Arts College Faculty by Mitchell Langbert. The phenomenon itself is widely acknowledged and much commented on. This just provides more data validating many assumptions.

What is striking to me is the even greater imbalance in this data set compared to others I have seen.

And this is even more striking.

The electorate at large are, crudely 30:40:30 (Republicans:Independents:Democrats) with a +/- flex in each category of 10 points at any point in time. If academia looked like America, the ratio ought to be 1:1 or at most 1.5:1 D:R at any random point on in time. When you look at academia ratios of 5:1 ranging up to 108:1, you begin to realize just how impermeable are the bubbles within which they live.

How on earth could such a coddled and protected establishment be so divergent from the norm? Kind of mystifying.
