One additional thought having completed Shakespeare The World as Stage by Bill Bryson.
Obviously Shakespeare was a playwright, a poet, a director, and an actor. I had not appreciated the degree to which he was also a businessman and investor. He owned shares in The Globe and other theaters in which he performed. He purchased agricultural land for rents. He owned residential property for himself and for rental purposes.
Given the perilous times, the recurrent plagues and fires, the inherent risk in theatrical productions, the meagerness of income from writing plays, etc. it is amazing he had time to be a successful businessman and investor as well as writing the plays which established such a firm mark on the English language and the direction of theater.
