Its about values and behaviors not poverty

Putting some statistical meat on the bones of an old argument.  Does poverty cause crime.  The answer is no as is readily seen across countries and centuries but yes is the preferred answer for many.  From Money and crime: the relationship that wasn't by Emil O. Kirkegaard.  The subheading is Poverty makes you... unable to afford expensive things

Kirkegaard reviews multiple recent papers all of which sow either no relationship between crime and poverty or only a small and weak relationship.

All in all, we can be fairly confident that lack of money, broadly speaking, is not an important cause of crime. Whatever theories ascribe this power to money, need to look somewhere else.
