I find this interesting because Obama's was a logical and reasoned argument. I disagree with it but it was perfectly reasonable and, when considering risks, makes an excellent point.
The efforts to hide that position are despicable but the original argument was not.
More than a decade later, his position only appears foolish because of changed realities on the ground. But it was not a necessarily a wrong position at the time. Disputable, certainly, but not definitively wrong.
