Fascinatingly ironic. From Will American Ideas Tear France Apart? Some of Its Leaders Think So by Norimitsu Onishi at the New York Times. The plague of neo-racist, totalitarian, authoritarian philosophies such as BLM, Deconstructionism, post-modernism, Social Justice and Critical Race Theory which have come to dominate the far left in the US, mainstream media journalists and academics are all the spawn of 1960s French intellectuals and the German Frankfurt School, both in turn spawn of various Marxist revolutionary schools of thought.
France foisted this cognitive plague on the US academies while stifling or developing immunity to it in France. Now the cognitive plague mutated and more antithetical to human rights, freedom and individualism than ever has returned to France. The French establishment are turning on the Woke fanatics, hopefully successfully.
PARIS — The threat is said to be existential. It fuels secessionism. Gnaws at national unity. Abets Islamism. Attacks France’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
The threat? “Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States,’’ said President Emmanuel Macron.
French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society. “There’s a battle to wage against an intellectual matrix from American universities,’’ warned Mr. Macron’s education minister.
Emboldened by these comments, prominent intellectuals have banded together against what they regard as contamination by the out-of-control woke leftism of American campuses and its attendant cancel culture.
The New York Times, the epitome of mainstream media infected by neo-racist, totalitarian, authoritarian philosophies do their part to break the French Establishment revulsion with the racism and authoritarianism of the critical theory zealots. But it doesn't work. Neo-racist, totalitarian, authoritarian philosophies are simply incompatible with nations built on freedom, natural rights, and individualism. Nice to have the French as an ally in reverting to Age of Enlightenment values which have made everyone so dramatically better than before.
