An Insight

I like this thread, addressing an issue I have commented on with some frequency.  I am skeptical of establishment parties and unenthusiastic about either the Democratic or Republican Parties.  The Republicans, owing to Newt Gingrich, to the Tea Party and to Trump, are closer to the public than in the past but the establishment wing is still a privileged insider grouper virtually identical to the establishment Democrats trying to keep control.

Many things described as "liberal" today mean the opposite of what was historically true and what many people expect, and this disconnect is likely contributing to some of heightened frustration we're seeing in political arguments in 2020.

Too libertarian and open to be considered establishment Republican and too anti-racist, too equality-for-all, and too empirical/scientific method to be considered Democrat, I have sought a useful description to hang my philosophical hat on.  A good while ago I settled on Classical Liberal.  They are fleeing the Democratic party and there isn't much room there.  However, the term is useful in terms of a description.
