When the best defense or your journalistic integrity is that the lie is so obvious it must be a mistake.

We know it happens all the time but this is still a pretty stark example of either journalists deliberately lying or journalists so pre-committed to a narrative that it is impossible for them to pay attention to what is being said.

Is it possible that she just misunderstood? Anything is possible but this is the source of quote and it seems pretty clear that Starr is explicitly paraphrasing Schiff.
