Amidst all the Sturm and Drang of antisemitism on campuses today, it is worth remebering from the experience at Evergreen a few years ago that the protests usually involve a small subset of unruly (and unstable) students. In the case of Evergreen, 5% of students caused virtually all the protests.
From the news accounts, it seems like a good portion of the protesting students are foreign students studying in the US. Indubitably, a good number of the professors are drooling postmodernist Marxists and the small minority of protesting students poison the environment for everyone, but the reality is that most students, and even most professors, are not postmodernist Marxists or even antisemites or racists.
The uncritical and catastrophizing mainstream media make it seem that we are coming apart at the seams. But we are not.
Things could (and should) be better in academia but they are not as bad as they are being made out to seem.
