While I am ambivalent about legacy admits at private institutions, she undermines her own point by trying to draw a connection between racial discrimination on admits and legacy programs and then bumbling the comparison.
The Supreme Court can of course only respond to the cases brought before them, they cannot arbitrarily make new law such as choosing to abolish legacy admissions. They addressed an affirmative action which was brought before them. I am unaware of any case dealing with the legality of legacy programs. How long has AOC been in Congress already?
A member of the House of Representatives who does not know that the US is 70% white is almost as startling as the supposed fact that legacy admits are that diverse. Allowing for variances in definitions, the US is basically 70% white. So legacy admits seem to mirror those of the population. Either she has her facts wrong and legacy admits aren't that diverse or fifty years of affirmative action has gotten us to the point where not only is the student body diverse but so is the alumni body.
