Capturing a thought after reading a long series of data and theoretical arguments.
The world is constituted of gaussian and power law systems. There are a few others with lesser representation. We seem strongly disposed towards the category error of interpreting power law systems via the lens of a gaussian distribution. We seem to demonstrate a strong reluctance to acknowledge power law systems where they exist. In the vernacular, you might say that we incorrectly let normal distributions dominate Pareto distributions.Much to the detriment of our comprehension and the validity of our policy choices.
