Fewer doctors, fewer deaths

OK.  This is how to start an essay in fashion that really makes you want to read more.

In March 2000, doctors in most of Israel went on strike. Deaths dropped by 20% – except in the areas where physician contracts stopped them from striking. Sometimes less is more, at least in the short term.

This is from Nationwide Shortage of Tamiflu – and Other Good News by Mark Buchanan.  It is about the care necessary when considering the difference between rules and recommendations which are routinely advanced by the medical industry versus that which is actually known.
