The people who are talking don’t know, and the people who know are not talking

From The Weakness of the Despot by David Remnick, an interview with Stephen Kotkin, a historian and author of a trilogy biography of Stalin.  Remnick on the cyber aspects of Russo-Ukrainian war.

And there’s a great deal of stuff happening in the cyber realm that we don’t know anything about because the people who are talking don’t know, and the people who know are not talking. And there is quite a lot of armed conflict, thanks to the courage of the Ukrainians and the response and logistics of nato, with Washington, of course, leading them.

AGW, Green Energy, Covid-19, Canadian truckers and now the Russo-Ukrainian war.  All are characterized by the phenomenon that the people who are talking don’t know, and the people who know are not talking.

In each case, you have to burrow into information sources and find those that are trustworthy, or at least a known quality.  You have to find the people who know but aren't talking that much.  Because those with vested hidden interests and those whose business models depend on a fear-driven click addiction are definitely in the camp of the loud talkers who know little.
