From George Orwell, in a letter to Malcolm Muggeridge (4 December 1948), published in Malcolm Muggeridge: A Life (1980) by Ian Hunter.
The real division is not between conservatives and revolutionaries but between authoritarians and libertarians.
The terms change over the years and decades but the underlying division remains real. Libertarians, whether you now call them Conservatives or Classical Liberals, are for liberty of the individual and Authoritarians, now called Socialists, Communist, Critical Race Theorists, Social Justice Theorists, Radical Feminists, or Antifa/Anarchists, are for central planning and control by the privileged center. The labels constantly evolve and are not important. The principles are enduring and critically important.
