During the Roman-Meroitic War the Kushite Queen Amanirenas sacked the Roman frontier city of Philae and captured several statues of the Emperor Augustus. She buried the bronze head of one such statue in a temple at her capital Meroe. Today you can see it in the British Museum. pic.twitter.com/P5WR7luOBj
