Political Buchanans

Both sides of the aisle and federal, state and local - so many of our political leaders remind me these days of Nick Carraway's assessment of Daisy and Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

They were careless peoples, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made...

Careless policies based on emotional dispositions and empty rhetoric rather than any real desire to actually solve problems.  And there is no pool of money larger than taxpayer money.  Our politicians are overwhelmingly of the Buchanan tribe.
