The contrast between vernacular knowledge and ideological belief

As a dog walker, pack mentality has taught me everything I know about working with humans by Ryan Stewart. An entertaining article. Nothing particularly alarming in his argument. His key learnings from dogs are:
Learn to read body language

Remember what you put in your body matters

Implement positive reinforcement

Exercise more, the right way

Avoid the bad apples and find the good

Be straightforward

Make the effort - life is short

Seek out similarities
What caught my eye were the three injunctions to "Learn to read body language", "Avoid the bad apples and find the good" and "Seek out similarities" which are all variations on the theme of find your own people - people you can read, who agree and are similar to you. You look at census sorting and that is clearly what happens. But what about the agenda of many progressives who want to do the opposite of those three recommendations.

Just an interesting contrast between vernacular knowledge and ideological belief.
