Despite not actually reading anything by Kipling at the moment, or even recently, he does keep popping up.
While researching something else entirely, I came across this article in the April, 1936 edition of The Atlantic, by Edmonia Hill. Edmonia Hill was the American wife of a British professor, Alec Hill, posted to Allahabad University in India in the 1880's. There she became acquainted with the young Rudyard Kipling and this article is composed of her contemporaneous letters home. They are interesting not only for what they relate of Kipling as he was before his later fame, but also of the expatriate life of India in the 1880s.
