Jacobin is a socialist magazine in the sense that they are avowed socialists. It’s not slinging a term to people with left-leaning politics on issues you don’t like, they call themselves socialists.

And, of course, they push a lot of socialist ideas. It’s to be expected, really, even if there’s no such thing as a good socialist idea.

But there are varying degrees of stupid. Idiocy isn’t a binary thing, after all. You’re not either an idiot or not. There is a spectrum of idiocy and so some ideas are just a little bit idiotic—rent control, for example, is a horrible idea that comes from a sort of OK place—but some go so far down the line that you’d think even Jacobin would sigh and rethink their positions.

You would be wrong, however.

It seems a piece from a week ago that just made it before my eyes has the “good” folks over there suggesting the socialization of dating apps.
