And, assuming that the degree to which people talk about an issue reflects the degree to which they are concerned about it, here is the refutation from Google Trends.
Not only are people not talking about affordable housing more than in 2018, they are talking about it less. And about 25-35% less than the earliest data in 2004.
You know who is almost certainly talking about affordable housing more? Advocates and mainstream media. The public is not interested in affordable housing but the chattering classes are.
