The Roman doctor Celsus provided a detailed description of how the Romans performed cataract surgery. Called couching, an assistant held the head of the patient still as the doctor inserted a needle behind the eye into the lens, to push the cataract out of the way. pic.twitter.com/KCVITa9Z7a
