Purple Heart

I saw a passing allusion sometime this past week but can't find the original source now.  Apparently, our current supply of Purple Hearts are still being drawn from the stockpile produced at the end of WWII in anticipation of the invasion of the Japanese mainland and hundreds of thousands of casualties.

There are apparently some 60,000 WWII Purple Hearts still available for distribution to future recipients.

From 75 Years Later, Purple Hearts Made for an Invasion of Japan are Still Being Awarded by D.M. Giangreco.  A detailed account.
