My undergraduate degree is in International Economic Development. It is a lifelong interest. Forty some years ago, I became aware of Milton Friedman - not keen at first but much more enthusiastic later. Another hero, Hayek, perhaps thirty years ago. Similarly, Thomas Sowell - a wonderful economist with an expansive interest and a wonderfully insightful way of turning a phrase.
And apparently, in all these years, I simply was unaware of Walter E. Williams who passed away today. An inexplicable mystery to me given the cognitive circles I travel in but there it is. No one to blame, just a mystery.
Someone posted this interview of him from sometime in the early 2000s.

Rest in Peace. And now I'll go find his books to discover what I carelessly overlooked all these years.
