.@AOC and I were born the same year. She was a Dunkaroos kid—I liked fruit roll-ups. People our age have never experienced American prosperity in our adult lives— which is why so many millennials are embracing Democratic socialism https://t.co/hG6iT5XUlv

Charlotte Alter is a Ben Rhodes Mandarin Class legatee. Well, 29 years old, not 27. But other than that, spot on. Knows nothing, can't tell fact from emotion and is functionally innumerate.
Her father is Jonathan Alter. So she is the granddaughter of a successful industrialist and Chicago politician (both grandmother and grandfather). She is the daughter of a Harvard educated journalist who was in the heart of Chicago politics, a close confidante of Obama, intimate of Bill Clinton, extended family is all over politics at the national (DNC) level and state levels (California and Illinois) and everywhere in the mainstream media and entertainment. She is herself Harvard educated (or what passes for it these days) and the product of multigenerational one percenters. Plus she lives in the richest, most dynamic nation in the world. Classic denizen of the Mandarin Class but without ever having had to earn her way into it.
And she wants us to believe she has had a hard life and therefore her sufferings warrant "socialism". What narcissistic clap-trap.
But I only learned all that after being so incensed by her innumeracy. It was so profound that I had to do a little research to understand how it was even possible. Research which revealed the above. If she is born in the same year as AOC, she was born in 1989. Her claim is to never have experienced prosperity, at least not in her adult life. This is the sort of sniveling journalistic lie which drives ordinary people crazy. It is wrong at almost every conceivable level and to be able to say it with a straight face suggests either unplummable ignorance or evil arrogance.
It doesn't matter what the national economy has been doing. She has only ever lived in prosperity, being the product of a one percenter family who are in the middle of the profitable intersection of media and politics. What presumption as a one percenter to try and claim the mantle of economic victimhood, especially given that everyone else works hard for their prosperity, have no familial safety net, and have direct and personal experience of the vicissitudes of the economic cycle.
Regarding which, if born in 1989, she has ridden three cycles of prosperity. There is the neat thing called Google on the internet which allows you to search out the research of the National Bureau of Economic Research where you can find the history of economic cycles. From 1989 to 2019 there are 360 months. Only 34 of those months were recessions. She has lived 326 months of economic expansion. And the most recent 24 or so have been record breaking.
To understand the rejection of the Mandarin Class you only have to look at the Tourette-like sputterings of a 27 year-old, self-absorbed, know-nothing journalist ensconced in the bubble of the political-media swamp of the Mandarin Class, prognosticating on the wonders of socialism. It is . . . unseemly. At best.
Sort of reminds me of Texas State Treasurer Ann Richards in her keynote speech to the US Democratic National Convention in 1988. She was speaking of someone else but it can certainly be repurposed for the above tweet.
Poor Charlotte, she can't help it - she was born with a silver foot in her mouth.
