I have been critical of the mainstream media attempting to foster a sense of fear and existential threat. I have claimed that the issue of polarization is sharply limited to the Mandarin Class and that the nattering about polarization is really a function of fear within the Mandarin Class rather than a real phenomenon among Americans who don't pay attention the sturm of drang of Washington, D.C. and partisan jousting. That effectively there is no political polarization but rather a drifting away of the Mandarin Class from the body politick.
But it occurs to me that there is another of putting that. We are not suffering horizontal polarization (between the establishment parties). We are suffering vertical polarization between the Mandarin Class and everyone else.
