Data Talks
This shows % people fully vaccinated compared to GDP per capita.

The expected general correlation of competence is visible.
But a few interesting outliers.

In perfect Judgment and memory as to my mind, thanks be to God
As I do genealogical research, I read a lot of wills. In the past several months I have been covering a lot of ancestral lines in New England in the mid-1600s. While some are almost perfunctorily pragmatic, many have an opening which follows a general form, varying somewhat in specifics.
Edmund Wright (1670-1733) a sixth great-uncle by marriage and of Long Island. The opening of his will reads:
In the name of God, Amen, the second day of December in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and thirty one, I, Edmund Wright, of Oyster bay in Queens County, Island of Nassau and Province of New York, yeoman, being in indifferent health as to my body and in perfect Judgment and memory as to my mind, thanks be to God, therefore, yet calling unto mind the Mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner, at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
So many strands in there. The factual establishment of date and location in a period where those could be uncertain. His profession. His physical and mental condition. His pragmatic acknowledgment of mortality. His specification of a Christian burial. His statement of hope of his resurrection. His appreciation of God's bounty.
Almost literature in its capacity to bear a story.
History
The Roman baths in Bath, Somerset used to be open for public bathing, even hosting an annual swimming and dance party called the 'Roman Rendezvous'. Swimming in the ancient baths was banned on health grounds in 1978. pic.twitter.com/XfnQVL7Tdl

An Insight
The fundamental divide is not between agree and disagree; it is between open dialogue and suppression.

This assumption now seems uncertain
Good News. The NYT has decided it's acceptable to discuss the topic of C19 vaccine failure. Even Dr. Fauci agrees. Perhaps, the mounting evidence is too substantive to ignore. Lets consider some details and the implications. 1/

Public health positioned respiratory vaccines as the magic cure-all. It would both save society and wash away their sins, like lockdowns, pehaps the worst policy idea ever. We were told the sacrifices of today would bring salvation tomorrow.
It takes years to properly develop a vaccine and no, gobs of cash and public health cheerleading doesn't change this reality. Nor does the warp speed cutting of regulatory corners at the expense of safety, efficiacy and durability.
But perhaps more disturbing was the deliberate misrepresentation of their utility. It was argued, perhaps out of ignorance, that C19 vaccines would stop the infection, disease and transmission processes dead in their tracks. This was always a fantasy.
Respiratory vaccines, as currently conceived, can't effectively block viral infection or transmission. There are basic technical limitations. Perhaps, however, they would diminish disease severity, a worthy goal particularly for those at risk of hospitalization and death.
This assumption now seems uncertain, as data rolls in from Britain and Israel. 4-6 months out, relative vaccine efficacy has dropped markedly and the benefit of vaccination in preventing serious illness/death appears muted. This is particularly notable in at risk groups.
I am somewhat skeptic of his factual claim that data from Britain and Israel indicate that vaccine efficacy has dropped markedly. I have seen other research confirming that the vaccine efficacy has held steady and is anticipated to provide long term protection.
On the other hand, less than a week ago I posted A genuine mystery. The number of infections from the renegade Texas Caucus of Democrats continues to rise and spread. And all among people already supposedly vaccinated. I have seen accounts of similar significant Covid breakthroughs among those already vaccinated.
And in the bare few days since I posted that, I have come across three other instances where there seems to have been break-through events of Covid-19 among the already vaccinated.
Of course vaccination does not preclude infection, it only makes it dramatically less likely. That has not been effectively communicated. We are a numerically big nation where everyone is highly connected. Perhaps this is only a matter of the statistically rare event being over-emphasized since it is so unexpected because people have been effectively told that to have been vaccinated is to be immune.
Perhaps this is an unexpected consequence of the innovative mRNA technique used to create the two most popular vaccines. It would be interesting to see analysis of these breakthroughs by distribution of vaccine used among those already vaccinated.
I don't know what is going on. But neither does anyone else it seems.
I see wonderful things
Stunning. With a little mental flip, you can see this as the Earth spinning on its axis, unanchored in space, rather than the night sky moving – something we all know is the case, but don't usually feel in our bones. pic.twitter.com/yknxij2dXa
